On Friday, October 30, author Meagan Brothers will be reading from Weird Girl and What's His Name at the Hudson Valley Writers' Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY, for which I occasionally do graphic design. The reading starts at 7:30 p.m. and costs $10.

The Hudson Valley Writers Center describes the event:

A reading in collaboration with Three Rooms Press. Meagan Brothers reads from her recently published LGBT-Young Adult novel, Weird Girl and What’s His Name, about friendship and finding your place in the world.

Tickets can be purchased here. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Afterward, you can stay to chat with the Press and Meagan, or partake of Sleepy Hollow's annual Halloween traditions. Hope to see you there!

This weekend, the Merchant's House Museum continues its yearly tradition of offering candlelight ghost tours of the historic nineteenth century home. Eight people died at number 29 East Fourth Street, and some say their spirits still linger here today. In fact, The New York Times has called the Merchant's House Museum "Manhattan's most haunted house." I will be assisting with the ghost tours on Friday and Saturday, the 23rd and 24th. Tours are offered at these times:

Friday, October 23 & Saturday, October 24
Super Spooky Tour (includes 4th Floor Servants’ Quarters): 6:30, 8 & 9:30 p.m. $35
Spooky Tour: 7, 7:30, 8:30, 9 p.m. $25
MHM Members $15 all times.
Wednesday, October 28; Thursday, October 29; Friday, October 30

Additionally, on Sunday, October 25th, I will be reprising the role of Gertrude Tredwell during our annual From Parlor to Grave: 1865 Funeral Reenactment and Graveyard Procession. I will be dressed in period mourning, as shown above on the left, as we reenact the 1865 funeral of patriarch Seabury Tredwell. Tickets can be purchased here.

Last night marked the book birthday of Weird Girl and What's His Name! I've been working on this novel with author Meagan Brothers at Three Rooms Press for more than a year, and I could not be more delighted for her. The launch party at Cornelia Street Cafe was perfect; the room was packed, the books were flying off the sales table, and friends, fans, and colleagues were so happy to be celebrating this phenomenal story. It was a triumphant night.

Though its official release isn't until Tuesday, copies of Weird Girl and What's His Name have been spotted all over. Copies can be found at Book Culture, Barnes and Noble NYC, McNally Jackson, and of course, Amazon, to name just a few. Found a copy at your local bookstore? Share a picture below!

The Reviews Are In: WEIRD GIRL AND WHAT'S HIS NAME Is a Hit!

With only a week left until the official release of Meagan Brothers's Weird Girl and What's His Name (Three Rooms Press, 978-1941110270) I'm ecstatic to announce that the reviews have been rolling in and they all agree: this is the one book you need to buy this fall!

Lula and Rory are X-Files–loving best friends and misfits—she’s brashly outspoken and bookish, he’s in the closet and in a secret relationship with a much older man—who seem to fit with nobody but each other. But when Lula learns that Rory hasn’t been totally honest with her, she decides to run away. The story is narrated first by Rory, then by Lula following her return home, and evokes the rhythms of a friendship of long standing, even after it has been bruised beyond repair.

"This is a novel that transcends the LGBTQ genre, and it holds universal lessons for all. It is reminiscent of Judy Bloom’s Are You There God, It’s Me, Margaret and Tiger Eyes in the way it tackles somewhat taboo subjects within a smoothly written narrative. It has all the makings to become a classic of this generation."
