7/30 - Reading at the 6th Annual New York City Poetry Festival on Governor's Island

Looking for something fun and literary to do this weekend? Come to my favorite event of the year -- the Annual New York City Poetry Festival on Governor's Island! Admission is completely free, and Governor's Island (only accessible by ferry) is one of the best-kept secrets in NYC.

I'll be reading with Denim Skin at 1 p.m. 7/30 on the Algonquin Stage. Plus, swing by the Denim Skin booth for copies of the latest issues, T-shirts, swag, and more. I'll be handing out Songs of My Selfie bookmarks and back-issues of Cabildo Quarterly as well! Come by and say hello!

From their website

The 6th Annual New York City Poetry Festival will be held on Governors Island's Colonel's Row on July 30th and 31st, 2016. The Poetry Society of New York, producers of The Poetry Brothel and The Typewriter Project, once again invite attendees to come together for this free two-day festival to celebrate New York City's vibrant poetry community. The event includes over 75 poetry organizations and 250 poets on its three main stages, including headliners Camille Rankine, Jericho Brown, and Matthew Yeager; a Vendor's Village where local booksellers, artists and craft makers sell their wares; healthy and delicious food options; a beer garden sponsored by Brooklyn Brewery, poetry-inspired installation art throughout; the Ring of Daisies open mic; and, of course, the Children's Festival at NYCPOFEST, sponsored by Writopia Lab!

ABOUT SONGS OF MY SELFIE
“Songs of My Selfie is an enchanting, heartrending, and utterly relatable read for any and all millennials. This is a wonderful collection of stories from some of the brightest young writers today.” —Portland Book Review

“If you want a preview of some writers with brighter futures than the newspapers anticipate, well, here you go.”
—JF Sargent, Cracked.com

“This is the book you want to read if you are curious about who’ll be driving the truck in a few years.”
—Ethan Rutherford, The Peripatetic Coffin and Other Stories

With fresh new voices and edgy prose, seventeen stories by millennial writers offer a cross-section of vibrant young characters: unemployed grads deep in debt, expectant mothers on the cusp of adulthood, online relationship addicts, and twenty-somethings at war with their families’ expectations. Here are the strong and the weak, the self-aware and those who reject reality—all carefully crafted to buck the common perception of this generation.
